Swimming with Whale Sharks

Swimming with the Whale Sharks in the Philippines was one of the greatest moments that I had during my four month trip through South East Asia. Imagine snorkeling in the water and watching as a school bus-sized fish swims alongside, gently and gracefully. Time slows down and all the sounds are drowned out. It’s just you and this beautiful creature. Truly a sight to see.

To swim with the whale sharks, you can fly into Cebu City, then go to Oslob via the bus from the south bus terminal in Cebu City. It’s a three to four hour journey, but it allows you to continue going south to the island of Negros for thCasaroro Falls, or you can continue following around the ring island highway to visit places like Moalboal for Kawasan Falls, or go back towards Dalaguete for a trip over the mountains to Osmeña Peak.

From Oslob, you can hire a tuk-tuk to drive you to the whale shark area. Make sure to get there early to beat the crowds.
