Day 4 – Backpacking Sørøya – Hiking Kuvikfjellet to Børstrand

This day gave us some of the best views and we also found the most amount of reindeer horns ever. By this point we had collected three horns, but on this day we would find many more on and off the trail. In the mroning we crossed a narrow ridgeline that bridged the gap between the different sides of the island. Here there were great views of the ocean and mountains.

This part of the island looked much more mild in terms of climbing. It was relatively flat and thus we were able to get 5km done fairly quick. Here was a great breakfast spot before reaching our next sign post – the last one for another 30km.

Bugs and wild reindeer horns.

On this portion of the hike, the fog started to roll in and make for a very different type of hiking day. Finding random reindeer horns kept the motivation going and I even walked barefoot in a lake to cross to the other side to find one of the best looking horns we found for the day.

We found a sheltered spot from the wind to camp and laid down our bags and reindeer horns for the day.

Location:

We camped somewhere across the water from Sørøya Gjestestue. This is a good spot to sleep and to take a midway break on your cross island trip.
